Angelina Jolie has dismissed reports that she is poised to play iconic American actress Marilyn Monroe in a forthcoming blockbuster.
The Oscar-winning actress told Sky News the speculation is wide of the mark, as she appeared at the premiere of her new spy thriller Salt.

“It’s really funny because I have just heard about this for the first time today,” she said.

“It’s news to me. I’m flattered I suppose.”

Jolie’s latest action movie took £20m on its debut weekend in the US and looks set to do well in Europe.

Her character Evelyn Salt is a CIA operative accused of being a Russian “sleeper” agent waiting to be activated.

The plot has echoes of what happened earlier this year, when 10 people were arrested in the US on suspicion of spying for Russia.

“It was all very, very strange how close it was,” Jolie said.

“Somebody thought it was good marketing but hopefully it won’t affect our relationship with Russia.”

She added: “I did a lot of the stunts myself. I got a gash, a little scar right on the bridge of my nose but that was something very silly I did rolling into a table.”

Hollywood’s appetite for a hard-hitting female agent to compete with the likes of Jason Bourne and James Bond is strong and all the indications are that Salt could be that character.

“I hope so,” said Jolie. “It depends on the audiences. So far they like it. We leave it open at the end, so we will see how she goes.”

It seems Angelina Jolie’s six children help their mum balance her busy work and home life.

The actress, who is currently promoting her new movie Salt, says now the kids are growing up, they are learning to take care of each other:

“They all take turns. I mean it’s funny because the boys are the oldest but the girls are always the most nurturing. The girls are much younger but they seem to take care of things in the house,” said the 35-year-old star.

Angelina has been compared to a female James Bond for her role as Evelyn Salt and says she hoped there will be more female action roles in the future:

“I think there’ll be more and more. I just think we have to make enough good ones and the audiences will like them and they work. But the men’s, there have been great successful ones in the past and they’re fun and I watch them but it’s time for the girls,” she said.

Salt is out in UK cinemas now.

Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp will be back in theaters in December.

Sony has given their next film, the international thriller “The Tourist,” a December 10 release date, prime territory for a commercial run extending through the holidays and a possible awards-season bid.

Jolie’s “Salt,” the Sony actioner that has grossed $103.4 million domestically, remains in play in theaters. Depp was in theaters earlier this year with Disney’s global blockbuster “Alice in Wonderland.”

“Tourist,” shot in Venice and Paris by German filmmaker Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (“The Lives of Others”), centers on an American tourist (Depp) who becomes involved with an Interpol agent (Jolie).

It will face off against the bows of Fox’s “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” and Paramount’s boxing drama “The Fighter,” starring Mark Wahlberg.

But Angelina Jolie cut a lonely figure yesterday as she spent a pre-birthday lunch with just her assistant for company at a Los Angeles restaurant.
There was no sign of beau Brad Pitt as the actress, who turns 35 today, was pictured leaving Mediterranean eatery Sur in West Hollywood looking glum and ultra skinny in a black strapless top and oversized sunglasses.
Perhaps she had left Brad at their Hollywood home to look after their kids; Maddox, eight, Pax, six, Zahara, five, Shiloh, four, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 22 months.
Angelina is having some time off in Los Angeles before she embarks on promotional duties for her summer action thriller Salt.
The actress told Entertainment Tonight she wasn’t fazed by the stunts in the movie, in which she plays a CIA officer.
She said: ‘We have so much trust. They [the stunt co-ordinators] can hang me off the side of a building or a moving car or anything – I trust that I’m going to be safe and I can just play.’

ANGELINA Jolie and Brad Pitt’s kids spent this past Sunday at Johnny Depp’s house in Venice, Italy.
According to Us Weekly magazine, the photogenic Hollywood couple took Maddox, 8, Pax, 6, Zahara, 5, and Shiloh, 3, to play with Depp’s two children — Lily-Rose, 10, and Jack, 7.
Angelina and Johnny are currently shooting the dramatic thriller The Tourist.
Meanwhile, it has been claimed that Jolie — who is openly bisexual — has a huge crush on Depp’s longtime partner, French actress Vanessa Paradis.
“Angelina was bemused when she read reports about her supposedly having a crush on Johnny,” a source said earlier this month.
“She pointed out that while he’s a good-looking guy, there’s nothing especially exciting about him — and she thinks his girlfriend is way hotter.
“Ever since Angie first saw magazine photos of Vanessa, she has wanted to meet her and become pals

The Tourist is the story of a broken-hearted traveler, played by Johnny, who is seduced by a ruthless Interpol agent looking to flush out a criminal she once had an affair with.
Surprisingly, the film marks the first time the paths of two of Hollywood’s biggest stars have crossed.
“I had never met Angelina before, but I found her to be a real treat, I mean a real doll,” said Johnny on a recent visit to London.
“She is a nice woman, serious about what she does and loves her man and loves her kids. I was very impressed.”
